Bio

My name is Lauren Jamieson and I am a mixed media artist from Dallas, Texas. I primarily make work with photography, illustration and collaging. I studied photography at Texas State University and am currently finishing my BFA in art studies at Arizona State University. Storytelling is a huge narrative in my work, specifically working with photo books, photo exhibitions and illustration. I’ve been a part of multiple exhibitions, one I helped curate with a photography club at Texas State.

Artist Statement

I’ve always had a passion for art in all forms, I like to combine things to make them my own. I started off in photography, working with digital photography, film and large format. Using these different forms of photography changes visual narratives and adds variation to my work. I started to combine my photograph based work with mixed media, drawing on top of images, collaging images, adding text and texture. I also combine my work into book formats that become their own storybooks with different themes that represent my inner world.

I have strong narratives in my work to engage the viewer. I choose topics that exist within me and basically word vomit what I’m feeling into visual representations. I love chaos, mixing things that don’t make sense together, abstracting pieces and images to create different emotions. I also make representational work that doesn’t always have a deeper meaning or storyline, sometimes I create work just so it can exist. I believe I have a wide range in the work I make, a chaotic representation of my mind that has become one of the best ways for me to express myself authentically.
